Monger is 193 km from Bumthang and one can take up to eight hours to reach by car. One can enjoy one the most beautiful drives over the Himalayas ranges at a height of 3700m at the Thimshhingla pass. Along the way one will pass many different vegetation zones and possibly catch sight of the red panda and flying squirrel. Monger is east Bhutan’s second largest town with settlement scattered in the mountains. Town in Monger lies on the highway to Trashigang.
It is considered a new Dzong and was built in the 1930s under the order of third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Located above the Monger town, annual festival takes place in November. It is the administrative office of the Monger district and houses 100 monks.
